825gp for Black Dye? Are they serious? I think it should be a bit cheaper than that, does anyone agree?

Everytime i go to the trader the price goes up

The more people that sell black dye to the merchant, the less it costs to buy from it. Common dyes like orange or purple will be cheaper cause more people have the bottles to sell.

That would be a cool thing to add to a merchant AI...

Black is always the most requested dye in the MMORPG's I have seen.

Near 1 platinum is a bit spendy however...

I think dye drops are totally random. Maybe the best would be some low level monsters you can kill lots of with area of effect spells.

my best drop for dyes are the aloe seeds outside ascalon city pre-sear.
(ive gotten one of each normal color including silver and blk from them so far)

( total colors so far with 2 characs farming: about 22 dyes)

*not all are from aloe seeds but more than half have been from them.

825gp for Black Dye? *now. that i have to see.
1st time i checked black dye cost @ post sear, it was only 150gold. that is a huge difference...

150g for the rarest dye in the game? Give me that seller's character name, I have 1500 gold for him if I can get 10... and I'd like to see if he's interested in buying a bridge I happen to have for sale.

it was a npc merchant, not a charac player.

You sure you weren't looking at the price he'd pay for it? That is WAY lower than the price he sells for. The lowest I've ever seen it was in the 700 range.
I've only ever gotten one Black dye since the November BWE, and I sold that after only a few seconds of advertising it, for 650.

As already stated, they work on supply and demand. You must have been selling an unpopular color. The idea of the traders is that you sell it to them, and they sell it to other players at an increased price.

Still, like in real life, you're better off cutting out the middleman and simply selling it directly to another player. That way they get it for cheaper and you get more money for it.

i haven't sold any dyes to the trader myself. i figure that eventually i'll get full sets and choose what i want my char to look like once she's bigger. kizayaen thinks it's just bizarre the amount of dyes i was getting on random drops in presear.

The Dye trader has been in the habit of offering you 2 gold for black dye recently, the best money is to be made from red dyes IMO, you can often buy them for 200 or under and ive seen them go for 380 to the trader, obviously the profit margins can be larger in black dye, but its a lot rarer and people arent usually willing to part with them for less than 2500.
As for farming for dye, waste of time if your farming specifically for dyes.

I would say I spend the majority of my time on the game buying and selling dyes for small profits, I just enjoy it.
